What is a Window Manager?

A window manager is system software that controls the placement and appearance of windows within a windowing system in a graphical user interface.

How many Types of Window Managers are there?

Window Managers can be divided into 3 to 4 categories as below:

  1. Compositing window managers
  2. Stacking window managers
  3. Tiling window manager
  4. Dynamic window manager

The one we are interested in is the Tiling Window Manager

Tiling Window Manager

Tiling window managers paint all windows on-screen by placing them side by side or above and below each other so that no window ever covers another.
